Action #8 — Breakfast for 70 children (Kenya)
In rural primary schools in Homa Bay, Kenya, many children arrive at school on an empty stomach. Without a morning meal, it’s hard to concentrate, to learn, or even to stay in school for the full day.
Rural to Action, a local community-based organization, runs the Cup of Hope program: every morning, children receive a nutritious porridge before class begins.
Rural to Action began when its co-founder Joseph spent his birthday giving 100 schoolchildren a cup of porridge. It has since grown into a youth-led organization serving rural schools in Homa Bay.
A local school principal reports that since the porridge program began, children are more energetic in class and absenteeism is down.
$1 feeds one child for a full week. Everyday Humanitarians funded $70, which covered a week of breakfast for 70 children.
$1 × 70 children = $70.
The project was implemented by Rural to Action, a registered community-based organization (CBO) in Kenya (Registration No. CBO/HUD/HB/0449/2023), working directly in schools across Homa Bay. The funds were sent directly to the organization. The photos and video on this page are from their Cup of Hope program and are not specific to this donation.
